Drilling World Record
Project:Drilling World Record
Location:Northern Saskatchewan, Canada
Client:Cameco
Type of Drilling:Core
Description:

Boart Longyear Driller Richard Powder and his helper Brian Peterson drilled an impressive 183 meter shift ( that is 600 feet folks) and changed the bit at 199 meters depth as well. The hole was collared to 23 meters at the start of Richards shift. Using a Longyear NQ Series 2 bit, and a Unitized Longyear 38 Drill rig, the crew managed to drill 111 meters by 11 am ( 4 hours drilling) After taking a single shot survey and changing the bit at 199m , the shift ended with the hole at 206m deep. The next shift managed to drill 76m which is evidence that the hole was not compromised by Richard's remarkable shift.

Using a 3m core barrel, means that Brian had to empty and box 60 inner tubes of core. It also meant that Richard had to rechuck the drill over 300 times as it is a conventional rig with a 2 foot stroke!

The job is in Northern Saskatchewan on a project for Cameco. All of the required guards and personal protection devises as well as prescribed work procedures were employed on this site proving that one can be productive and safe at the same time.

We would like to know if in fact this is a world record for our industry. Please advise if you have any knowledge of a diamond drill shift that exceeds this.

Yours truly
